The Evolution of a Butterfly Garden
by Carole Tomlinson, Idalia Society member and a member of the Kansas Native Plant Society and the North American Butterfly Association (NABA). Carole’s engaging program traces a burgeoning interest in butterflies and gardening that culminated in a magnificent memorial garden at her church, Bristol Hill United Methodist in KCKS. Brilliant photographs will demonstrate the planning process, plant selection and how the garden became an important shared space for the community. Quarterly program of The Idalia Society.

Natives (Plants) and Leps
by Paula Diaz, principal of GardeNerd Consultations, a founding and current member of the Raymore Tree Board, a GrowNative! Member serving on their marketing committee, as well as a member of the Missouri Prairie Foundation (MPF) and the Missouri Native Plant Society. Butterflies have always depended on native plants as a source of nectar and as host plants for their children, the caterpillars. With urban encroachment on the wild places, it’s increasingly important for gardeners to include native plants in their home gardens. Paula will recommend native plants that will please both the homeowner and the butterflies. Quarterly program of The Idalia Society.
